It's time for the unsung heroes of music to get their tribute. I'm talking about the underappreciated bass players. The people who have helped support the driving rhythm of a song while the guitarists get all the credit. Well, I love the bass! A good bassline can be felt in the soul as well as in the chest. I put a list (and ya'll know how I love my lists) of some my favorite bass players and the songs in which the basslines kick booty like Bruce Lee in "Fists of Fury".
Cass Lewis from Skunk Anansie.
best playing - "On My Hotel T.V."
Pop Staples - The Staples' Singers.
best playing -- "I'll Take You There"

Stuart Zender -- Jamiroquai
best playing "Traveling Without Moving"
Victor Damiani - Cake (Now with a band called Deathray)
best playing - "The Distance" by Cake
Me'Shell Ndegeocello
best playing -- "If That's Your Boyfriend (It wasn't last night)"
Tony Kanal (my 'baby daddy'..just kidding) -- No Doubt
best playing -- "Hey Baby"
************************* MY TOP THREE PICKS***********************
Flea - Red Hot Chilli Peppers
best playing - "Under the Bridge" He is so good, that it was hard to choose, but I chose this song because his playing is so fluid on this song. It's like warm water.
Larry Graham - Sly & the Family Stone
best playing - "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" Larry Graham is so kick ass, I really couldn't come up with one specific song. I decided to pick the song where the bassline was part of a wicked, funkfantastic intro.
BOOTSY COLLINS - Parliment and was also James Brown's bassplayer when he started his 'Brand New Bag'
Bootsy is the king of funkadelic, so how can I choose? I chose the song that made it possible for the bassline to come to the front of a song and take charge. That song is "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag".
May the Funk Be With You!
